We draw from our head through our body to our hands, towards the paper. We train head and hand, but how can we involve the whole body?
Through movement exercises and in dialogue with artists and art educators, I developed a way to activate bodies collectively, together, in relation to space, so that you get different perspectives on how to visualise a concept questioning inherited structures, unlearning visual stereotypes. Aiming to explore the awareness of ourselves and our surroundings through drawing and moving together. My research took place in Rotterdam and in Shantiniketan (India) where I was invited as a contributor artist and educator to Under the mango tree, a self-organised gathering of unlearning formed by small scale artist-led initiatives, schools and libraries with a focus on practices from indigenous practices and the global south.
The conclusion of the research was in a small gathering and presentation (COVID safe size) in the Growing Space Wielewaal with artists and art educators active in Rotterdam South.
Research made possible thank you to the research and development grant O&O from CBK Rotterdam
